Institute Schedule

Generally, books 1-3 have their main teaching classes in the morning (below is a typical day, but some books will have their classes at different times), and in the afternoon they will have their ensemble and enrichment classes. Books 4 and above will have their main teaching classes in the afternoon, and their enrichment class in the morning. Note however that guitarists will all have their main teaching classes in the morning. 

Ice Cream Social: Monday evening; meet at Ledbetter Beach

Student Recital: Tuesday evening, students have the opportunity to play a polished recital piece

Recital: Thursday evening, Guest/ faculty artist(s) TBD

Grande Finale Concert: Friday afternoon, arge and small ensembles and group classes

Grand Finale Concert: Friday afternoon

A typical day at the Santa Barbara Suzuki Institute (all classes are given as a guideline but are subject to change) is as follows:

Books 1-3 for violin, viola

9AM: Masterclass (private lesson with teacher in small-class setting)

10AM: Repertoire Class (group class working on review/revising pieces from current level book)

11AM: Art

12 noon: lunch

1PM: Ensemble class (string orchestra repertoire, 2-3 pieces are typically learned)

2PM: Fiddle/ or Art

Book 4 and beyond have chamber music in afternoon starting at 3PM

Guitar, all books:

  • Technique/rep class and Masterclass in morning
  • Advanced guitarists can participate in chamber music

Cello: main classes will also be in the morning
